Greetings, Junkers!
Welcome back to the wonderful world of Junk Beautiful. We're glad you're here. What's so remarkable about it? This is the place where dreams really do come true. Ask yourself this question. In what other world can you take absolutely nothing like a barren piece of ground or an abandoned shack and transform it into something not only useful but absolutely fabulous? The answer is.... drum roll please... only in the jolly old land of junk. This time around we're moving our focus from behind closed doors to the great outdoors. So if you've been yearning to expand your horizons, come along for the recycling ride of a lifetime. On your marks, get set, go!
Our motto has and always will be reduce, reuse, and recycle. Not to mention repurpose, refresh, and recreate. That's a lot of "r" words we know, but these expressions have never been as fundamental as they are today. We feel strongly about the need to use what we already have in our own storage sheds, in those belonging to others (permission granted), and stuff in the rough picked up at flea markets, swap meets, rummage sales, and many other places where junk abounds. What's to do with all of this rubbish? The possibilities are downright mind boggling.
Let's focus on the subject matter at hand. The nationwide trend seems to be running in the direction of downsizing on the square footage or in the alternative staying in the same pot you were planted and making it the best it can be. We say bravo to that! Scaling back at the homestead is admirable, but may leave you feeling a little cramped for space. If this strikes a chord with you, we have some ideas to relieve your sense of confinement. To get things started, please get off your chair (unless you read standing up), open your front door, and take a look at what surrounds your abode. Whoa! See what we mean? With a little imagination and some reclaimed treasures all of what you see can easily be turned into extended living space for you and yours. Pretty exciting, huh?
In the pages that follow you'll find bright ideas for outdoor living. From sleeping under the stars to dining al fresco, and everything in between, including the kitchen sink; you'll find it here. Have fun and enjoy the fresh air.
Until next time...
See you on the junk pile!

Very inter-est-ing !!!, November 20, 2009
I really like this book. Even though I may not make many or any of the projects any time soon, I think these ladies are extremely clever. Would recommend this book anytime!!
Inspiring..., September 8, 2009
Great ideas and pictures will get you thinking about "junk" you have or can acquire.
Some ideas might be a bit impractical for many readers but still useful. Nice pictures too.
Outdoor Edition is OUT-standing!, June 18, 2009
This is the third, and maybe the best, book that I have gotten written by Sue Whitney. I found this compilation of outdoor living spaces to be well thought out and beautifully photographed. The ideas are inventive, creative and unique. Miss Whitney takes readily available materials, most that could be destined for the landfill, and uses them to create fantastic outdoor spaces that are full of style, elegance, simplicity and a touch of whimsy. Most of the projects are simple enough for almost anyone but some are a bit more challenging, which makes it even more interesting. It doesn't matter that not everyone has access to a Chuck Wagon, what matters is that you can use elements from each page in your own way to make every entertaining and living space your own.
Junk Beautiful is right!, June 17, 2009
I loved so much about this book, I loved the various locations and styles. I loved the colorful photographs and I loved Sue's humor in the copy. Not only is she talented in her junking but also in her styling. In my opinion it is the best of her books, I am already looking forward to the next one.
Packed with inspiration, June 17, 2009
Junk Beautiful Outdoor Edition is packed with some of the most inspiring "Junk" creations imaginable. Every page is well laid out with beautiful photos and humorous captions. One of my favorites is an old hose reel that was turned into a dining cart, a very simple project that would blow your friends away at the next block party. It's also a must have book for the yard sale aficionado. Sue Whitney's talent at diverting items headed for a landfill and making them useful and interesting again is truly amazing. If you are at all interested in recycling, repurposing or creating a beautiful home environment then this is the book for you.
